How Do You Find CrossFit Competitions?
Some of the best ways to find Crossfit competitions are:
- Asking the owner of your gym. — If your gym is a CrossFit affiliate, they typically will be in communication with other gyms that may host competitions.
- Ask your fellow workout friends. — They may know about a competition through the grapevine!
- Do a quick Google search for competitions in your area, or whatever area you’d like to travel to.
- Look on Instagram. Almost every CrossFit gym has an Instagram and they will typically post about their competitions, if they’re open to the public! You can always find CrossFit boxes by searching on Instagram “Memphis CrossFit” or whatever city you’re looking for one in!

How Many Days Should You Rest Before a CrossFit Competition?
Typically you’ll want to rest 1-2 days before a CrossFit competition. But this really depends on the intensity of the competition and how serious you are about winning.
For example, when I do longer competitions where there are 4-5+ workouts that I know are going to be pretty challenging for me, I will take the day before off entirely, and just do some very light movement 2 days before.
But then on the other hand, I’ve done scaled competitions that I knew wouldn’t be extremely challenging for me and I only took off the day before.
Now, if you were looking to win a weekend-long competition that was multiple days long, with multiple events, you may consider resting 3-4 days beforehand, while just doing some walking and light movement!

What Do CrossFitters Eat Before Competition?
Carbs and protein. Your muscles will need the protein to replenish them, and you’ll need the carbs as your fuel for your workouts.
A few good examples of things to eat before a CrossFit competition would be:
- Oatmeal with a high quality protein shake on the side.
- A banana with 100% natural peanut butter.
- Eggs, egg whites, with veggies and whole wheat toast.
- Fruit.
- Rice or sweet potatoes.
Also make sure you are hydrating like crazy! Water, water, water. And you may also want a hydration powder to help replenish some of the electrolytes you will lose. This will help keep you from running out of energy or hitting a wall, mid-competition!
