Best Pregnancy Morning Routine
This is the best morning routine for pregnancy that I swear by!
*Note: The times in this pregnancy morning routine are just examples for you! These times typically worked best for me, but definitely just use them as a guide to schedule what works best for your own day.
8AM: Wake up (after sleeping in!) and eat a few crackers (if needed)
If you’re in your first trimester, you’re probably experiencing nausea. Eat a few saltine crackers immediately upon waking up to help prevent you from getting sick (vomiting is oftentimes just a response to extreme hunger in pregnancy, so eating right when you wake up can help!)
If you’re able to sleep in while pregnant, I highly recommend it. I have slept so much throughout my entire pregnancy because growing a baby seriously sucks so much of your energy away.
It’s super refreshing to be able to sleep in a little (if you’re able) so that you can have more energy for your day.
Regardless of whether or not you’re able to sleep in, make sure you are getting 7-8 hours of sleep per night at the minimum.
8:05AM: Make the bed and open the blinds.
The reason this is so significant to your morning pregnancy routine is because it’ll help you get out and stay out of the bed. Also, making the bed makes you feel like you’ve started the day productively, which will make you want to do more productive things.
Opening the blinds is also essential because you need as much sunshine as possible, mama! Especially if you’re feeling a bit down in the dumps, sunshine will help you feel better.
8:10AM: Put on workout clothes.
If you can get in the habit of actually getting dressed for the day while pregnant, you will feel so much better.
Honestly, the days where I stayed in my pj’s in the morning, I felt SO much worse. Not getting dressed made me not want to do anything… So I’d just lay on the couch for a bit and then typically end up falling back asleep, waking up in a bad mood, and literally doing nothing that day.
However, I learned that if I go ahead and put on my workout clothes (which are still pretty comfy), then I’m taking that first step in telling my brain “we’re going to workout, and we’re getting things done.”
These are the BEST maternity leggings you can workout in. I tried many brands and these were the only ones I loved because they didn’t come up high in the back and are super comfy!
*If you are taking regular bump photos, this is the perfect time to incorporate that into your routine, daily or weekly! (I took my pictures monthly.)
8:15AM: Hygiene time
Time to do all the normal hygiene things!
When you brush your teeth during pregnancy, it’s important to know that your gums may be extra sensitive and you may even notice some bleeding.
To help prevent this, make sure you’re flossing regularly and you’re brushing your teeth gently.
Next, wash your face, brush your hair, and make yourself feel good about yourself! (Whether that’s simply throwing on some perfume or putting on a little makeup.)
8:25AM: Caffeine time
My OB told me I could have up to 200mg. of caffeine per day while pregnant, so I definitely took advantage of that.
However, I could not STAND the smell of coffee for most of my pregnancy. So, I opted for hot tea instead. Feel free to add a little organic, raw, unfiltered honey if you prefer a bit of sweetness!
*PRO TIP: Always use a straw when drinking tea or coffee to prevent teeth stains. It truly makes the biggest difference! (These washable silicone straws are perfect because they don’t get hot like the stainless steel ones do.)
8:30AM: Breakfast or a morning snack + prenatals
I workout in the mornings, so I just do a small morning snack. Literally every single day of my pregnancy I’ve enjoyed a banana with 2 tbsp. of organic 100% peanuts peanut butter. This is one of the only things I was able to eat consistently even when I was experiencing first trimester nausea.
Here’s an entire list of 50+ clean breakfast ideas if you need help deciding on something!
Most prenatals require you to take them with food, so this is a great time to take them each day!
I cannot recommend Smarty Pants Organics Prenatals enough! I tried multiple different brands of prenatals throughout my pregnancy and I truly felt my best when I took these (as far as energy levels goes.) They also taste amazing so I looked forward to taking them every single day!
8:40AM: Bible and prayer time
While you’re pregnant, it’s important to make yourself stay in a routine of being in the Word and prayer since you can easily fall out of the habit of these things if you aren’t feeling great.
Each morning I read from my From Faith to Faith: A Daily Guide to Victory devotional. It is literally the most encouraging and educational devotional for ALL areas of life. I’ve been reading from it over and over for over 10 years now!
I read the scriptures that go along with the daily devo and then I also pray a prayer for my husband from my Power of a Praying Wife book. I cannot recommend this book ENOUGH! It covers every area of your husband’s life and you can pick and choose each day what area you want to cover in prayer.
As I’m approaching motherhood, I’m also planning to order The Power of a Praying Mom so I can pray some of Stormie’s powerful prayers over my daughter, alongside the other prayers I’m currently praying for my unborn baby!
9:15AM: Prep your post-workout snack and go workout
Making sure you have a post-workout snack ready is insanely important during pregnancy because you will get REAL hungry, real quick after exercising. And, remember, getting hungry during pregnancy is not your friend. That’s when you’re more likely to get nauseous.
Typically, I will start getting hungry again half way through my workout while pregnant!
So I always have my isolate protein shake ready to drink immediately upon finishing my workout (this type of protein is the best for immediately repairing and building muscle), as well as my overnight oats or a yogurt with some granola and berries.
11AM: Post-workout clean-up and recovery
Working out can take A LOT out of you when you’re pregnant. So typically when I get home from the gym, I take a long hot bath (just not too hot) and let myself rest for a while.
In the bath, I like to use my lavender Faith Farms Goat Milk Bath because the smell helps me relax and feel refreshed.
When I get out of the bath, I lather my belly, hips, booty, and boobies (LOL) in Bio Oil to prevent stretch marks! (I am now 35 weeks pregnant and haven’t gotten a single one!)
If your schedule allows for it, taking a mid-day nap is highly recommended!
You should never feel bad for sleeping while you’re pregnant because your body is having to expend so much more energy than normal, so extra sleep is needed.
Other Tips on This Pregnancy Morning Routine:
In addition to this morning routine for pregnancy, there are 10 things a pregnant woman needs for a comfortable and healthy pregnancy. These are 10 things I’ve used basically every day during my pregnancy, so I highly recommend!
Wondering what a pregnancy night routine should look like? Truth be told, your night routine may be exactly the same as it is when you’re not pregnant (mine is!) Just make sure you’re going to bed early enough so that you can get those 7-8 hours of sleep per night.
Feel free to take this daily routine for pregnant lady and make it your own!
Other Healthy Pregnancy Tips for First Time Moms
There are tons of pregnancy tips for first time moms in my first trimester recap so definitely go check that out if you haven’t yet!
In addition, I want to add these tips:
- Give yourself SO much grace, mama. — Pregnancy is basically like an alien taking over your body for almost 10 months.👽 You’re going through a lot and it’s healthy to acknowledge that.
- It’s okay to not like pregnancy. — I was never one of those women who says “I LOVE pregnancy” (I actually don’t even understand how any women feel that way haha but more power to them!!) and this is totally okay.
- Let yourself rest as much as you want. — Your body is expending SO much more energy than normal right now! Rest and don’t feel bad about it.
- Find a good pregnancy workout routine that works for you. — I promise, you will feel 10x better if you exercise (even if it’s just a simple 10 minute workout.) On the days I worked out throughout my pregnancy, I felt WAY better than I did on the days I didn’t.
- Get in the sunshine as much as possible. — It’ll give you more energy and happiness!
- Don’t isolate yourself. — It can be so easy to do this during pregnancy, but make yourself get out and around people who bring you joy! This can be especially helpful in kicking those stubborn hormone emotions to the curb.
- Laugh at yourself. — Whether your boobs are leaking everywhere or you can’t figure out why you’re crying, try not to take yourself too seriously. Laugh at the situation and remember it is so temporary!
- Don’t be afraid to ask for help. — I’m one of the world’s worst at asking for help because I like to do everything myself. (Relatable?) But, seriously, you’re carrying another human inside of you and you can’t do it all right now.
- Pray for patience and strive to be nice. — It can be really easy to get irritable during pregnancy. Pray and strive not to let it overtake you and when your husband (or anyone, for that matter) annoys you, remind yourself that you’re probably a little extra irritable right now, and try to respond, not react.
- Ravish in the positives! — Try to find and enjoy every single positive you can about pregnancy. Whether it’s feeling the sweet little kicks, getting to see your baby’s smooshy face on an ultrasound, or admiring your adorable bump in a cute outfit, enjoy it as much as you can!
This season will go by so very fast in the grand scheme of things and before you know it, you’ll be holding your precious baby! Like Darius Rucker says, “it won’t be like this for long….” ☺️ Keep that in the forefront of your mind, sis!
