This post is all about overcoming lies of the enemy.
The seven lies of the enemy we are going to expose for you in this post are absolutely CRUCIAL for you to recognize if you want to start truly walking confidently in who you are in Christ.
Personally, I struggled with believing lies of the enemy for years without even realizing where they were coming from.
And these common lies of the enemy held me back from achieving things and doing a lot in life for so long because I was a slave to fear, insecurity, and anxiety…
But now that I know how to shut down these lies of the enemy, I am living much more freely and confidently in who God made me to be! And I want the same for you. 🙂
I truly believe this post is going to help you shut the devil up. — Be sure to give our Podcast a listen because we go waaaay more in-depth on our personal stories of overcoming the lies of the enemy in that.

Overcoming the Lies of the Enemy
The 7 Most Common Lies of the Enemy to Stop Believing
First, we’re going to give you what we’ve collected to be the biggest 7 lies of the enemy…
You may struggle with believing some of these lies in particular… Or maybe you often believe a lie that falls WITHIN one of these lies…
Either way, we’re going to share what the enemy says vs. what God says! (The TRUTH!)
Lie of the enemy number 1:
“What I do doesn’t matter… I couldn’t possibly make an impact.”
This is one of the main ways the enemy loves to attack us, because if he can get us to feel purposeless, then he can get us to slip into sadness and depression more quickly.
The truth: “I am created for a divine purpose! It is a miracle that I was ever even born! I walk with God and He reveals His purposes for me daily.”
Lie of the enemy number 2:
“I can’t trust God… I have to do everything myself.”
Boy does the slimy devil love to pull this one on us…
“Why?” You may wonder…
Well, I can only imagine that it’s because the more that we trust God, the more glory God gets! The enemy certainly does not want God to get glory. So what better way than to try and convince us that God can’t be trusted? That we have to take care of everything on our own, so that we aren’t able to see the miraculous works of God?
Such a lie!
The truth: “My God CAN be trusted! He is bigger greater, and more powerful than anything in all of creation. I trust in the Lord and my strength is renewed daily.”
Lie of the enemy number 3:
“I have to be good enough or act a certain way for God to love me.”
If the enemy can get us to believe that we are not good enough for God if we don’t do certain things, then it robs Jesus of the glory He deserves for what He did for us on the cross!
The Truth: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son. That whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life! It’s not about what I do, but what He’s done for me.”
Lie of the enemy number 4:
“I’m all alone and no-one understands me.”
If the devil can get you to feel alone in your struggles, then he can certainly steal your joy and your “zazz” for life, which will make you do much less for the Kingdom.
Don’t fall into this trap!
The Truth: “I am never alone. God is always with me because His Holy Spirit lives inside of me. God has also given me the body of Christ to rely on when I’m in need.”
(PS. if you ever feel like you truly don’t have anyone to talk to, you can ALWAYS message us on Instagram and we are so happy to chat with you! We will pray with you, encourage you, or whatever else you may need. 🙂 )
Lie of the enemy number 5:
“I lose value when my appearance isn’t up to my standards.”
Nope. Nope. Nope! How much you are loved and valued has absolutely zero to do with your outward appearance. Your identity is in Christ alone, not how you look.
The Truth: “God made me fearfully and wonderfully… He knitted me JUST the way He wanted me to be inside my mother’s womb. Because of this, I am beautiful, inside and out!”
Lie of the enemy number 6:
“I will never be able to overcome that sin in my life.”
Sin is the devil’s love language… so of course he wants you to believe you can’t stop sinning.
The Truth: “In Christ, I am more than a conquerer!! I can do ALL THINGS through Christ who gives me strength!”
Lie of the enemy number 7:
“The enemy has authority and I should be afraid of him.”
Boy…. BYEEEEEE.
The enemy has zero power over you. As Christians, we cannot be possessed. The Holy Spirit of the living God lives inside of you and is the only thing that can control you.
The Truth: “Greater is He who is in me than he who is in this world! God has full authority over my mind, body, and soul.”
How Do You Fight the Lies of the Enemy?
When it comes to overcoming the lies of the enemy, it’s important to first recognize that you are NOT in a fight with him… Fights cause both people to be in turmoil and potentially get hurt. You’re not getting hurt here… You’re simply going to tell him to shut up, remind him who’s in charge (Jesus), and he will eventually be on his way…
There are a few tactics you can take to do this…
Overcoming the Lies of the Enemy Tactic 1:
The “Recognize. Renounce. Replace” Method.
- STEP ONE: RECOGNIZE. — Ask the Lord to help you recognize when a lie is coming through your mind.
- STEP TWO: RENOUNCE. — Declare that the lie is untrue and verbally reject it! (The devil cannot hear your thoughts, but he can hear your words.. So say out loud “that’s a lie, I rebuke you now in Jesus’ name!)
- STEP THREE: REPLACE. — Replace the lie with what the Word of God says instead. (Look in the section above this one for the truths God gives and you can use those or other scriptures to replace the lie!) Make SURE you say this out loud!
Overcoming the Lies of the Enemy Tactic 2:
After the RX3 Method…. any time you continue to hear that lie, you follow James 4:7…
“Submit to God. Resist the devil. And he will flee from you!” – James 4:7
Just because you recognize, renounce, and replace the enemy’s lie one time, doesn’t mean he’s going to stop trying…
God gave me an analogy for this a few years ago….
Think about back when you were in middle or elementary school and you would come across a bully… What do parents usually tell their kids to do in response to being bullied?
Ignore the bully.
Parents tend to say things like “ignore the bully long enough and he will eventually stop. He just wants to get a rise out of you… And if he doesn’t get it, he’ll eventually move on.”
This verse from James literally tells us the devil is the same way. Submit to God and resist him long enough and he WILL flee. He has no choice but to. That’s what the Word says, so its’ final.
Overcoming the Lies of the Enemy Tactic 3:
Speak the lie to someone else! Once you do, the lie will begin to lose its’ power. — Find someone you can confide in, someone you can truly trust that can listen to you and give you guidance/pray with you in this area… Once you expose this lie, it will begin to lose its’ effect on you!
Try speaking to someone in your church. Or if you don’t know someone you can trust, contact us through Instagram and we will be happy to talk. <3
Prayer Against the Lies of the Enemy
Dear Heavenly Father,
Help me to see that You’re with me always. Give me strength and help me to remember that I am an overcomer, through You. Teach me how to “take my thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ” and to recognize when a lie is coming into my mind. Help me to renounce it and replace it with YOUR TRUTH.
Empower me. Give me a fresh sense of identity in You and confidence in who You’ve made me to be.
I rebuke the devil and all of darkness in the name of Jesus. And I declare they have no authority in my life!
I am a child of God and the Holy Spirit empowers me daily!
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
