This post is all about healthy living Bible verses!
Are you curious what God says about healthy living? I have been too, many times!
Personally, when I became a Christian I started feeling convicted about overindulging in food and drink, and not treating my body well…. I suddenly had this urge to be better, and I knew that meant I needed to start with treating my body better.
I first want to say, this post is in no way written to point fingers at anyone. We all have different struggles in life and for some, healthy living is theirs. I do, however, know that there is an eagerness in the Christian community to learn what the Bible says about healthy living (or else you wouldn’t be here, right?☺️)
So here’s a list of Bible verses for healthy lifestyle, and I’m even including a printable (“What the Bible Says About Healthy Living” PDF) incase you want to hang it up in your home to be reminded of what God says about healthy living!
*You can download the printable at the bottom of this post.*
I hope these healthy living Bible verses speak to you today. 💗

Healthy Living Bible Verses
God wants you to be healthy, and the verses below will help you understand the Biblical principles of healthy living to incorporate into your everyday life!
Bible Verses About Lifestyle Changes & Healthy Living
“But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.” — 1 Corinthians 9:27
This verse shows us that we, indeed, DO have control over ourselves… And that choosing discipline is a choice. I always tell my clients in my group coaching program that “motivation is a fleeting feeling that comes and goes, but discipline is a choice!”
“Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” — 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
As Christians, we’re called to respect our bodies. Any time I find this difficult, I just think about what Christ did for me on the cross. And how dare I disrespect that or show a lack of appreciation by treating my body poorly… This life is a gift from God, and I need to show God my appreciation by treating my body well!
“Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.” — 2 Corinthians 7:1
There are many things that are okay in life, but if they’re used in excess, they DO defile our body and spirit… For example, food isn’t a sinful thing, but too much of it is. Wine isn’t a sinful thing, but too much of it is.
Why is too much of something a sinful thing? Because at that point, it becomes unhealthy and we then are at a point where we are not treating our body as a temple.
“I have the right to do anything,’ you say, but not everything is beneficial. ‘I have the right to do anything,’ but I will not be mastered by anything.” — 1 Corinthians 6:12
This goes exactly along with what I said above. ^^ God has given us all things to enjoy, but we must rely on God for discernment on what is best for us personally.
For example: Having a glass of wine may be no big deal to one person. But having a glass of wine for a recovering alcoholic could be detrimental.
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.” — 1 Corinthians 10:13
I LOVE this verse! Such a wonderful reminder that any time I feel tempted in any way, God also provides a way out of that sin for me.
“Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.” — 3 John 1:2
Healthy in body and strong in spirit. GAH, that’s a good one. It’s so comforting to know that God wishes for us to be healthy… Oftentimes (not always) that is a choice that’s up to us.

Bible Verses on Healthy Food & Diet
“Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything. But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it.” — Genesis 9:3-4
Honestly, as a vegetarian, I was super intrigued by this verse! So I did some research on it, and basically what it’s clearly telling us is that God did give us animals as a food source. However, we aren’t supposed to eat meat that has blood in it.
“But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God, the Father, has given me the seal of his approval.” — John 6:37
What I take from this verse is that yes, what we eat is clearly important (because it impacts our health), but we’re not supposed to get too caught up in it. We need to spend our time, instead, focusing on the things that are eternal.
“Since everything God created is good, we should not reject any of it but receive it with thanks.” — 1 Timothy 4:4
This verse basically tells us that all the food sources that are GOD-created are good for us to eat! I talk about this with my clients all the time… Focus on eating God-created foods (which are whole foods.)
“Then God said, ‘Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food.” — Genesis 1:29
This is just another good reminder that fruits and veggies were also a part of God’s meal plan for us!
“It is not good to eat too much honey, nor is it honorable to search out matters that are too deep.” — Proverbs 25:27
Basically… Don’t overdo anything in life. Moderation is key. 💗
“That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil; this is the gift of God.” — Ecclesiastes 3:13
I love that God is so loving to us that He wants to see us enjoying the things He’s provided for us! Whether it’s a good home-cooked meal or a tasty glass of wine, we’re to enjoy it and do it for the glory of God. That brings us to our final verse…
“So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” — 1 Corinthians 10:31
In summary, regardless of what you choose to eat or drink, do it for God’s glory. AKA do it in a way that exemplifies how awesome He is. Do it in a way that’s full of love for others (because God IS love!) Do it in a way that you would do if Jesus were sitting across the table from you!

What Does God Say About Taking Care of Your Health?
Taking care of our health is essential to treating our body as a temple. If we don’t do the things that create a healthy lifestyle, we won’t be able to fully live out our God-given purposes.
Think about this…. Say you are in your 30s and you’re not living healthily… Are you going to be functioning well when you’re in your 60s, 70s, and 80s (if you live that long?) Probably not.
BUT…. If you make the choices that benefit your health, you can be functioning well, moving well, and serving the Lord with all you’ve got when you’re older!
I know that sounds harsh, but it’s the truth.
What Does the Bible Say About Health and Fitness?
The Bible doesn’t specifically say very much about “fitness” because it really wasn’t necessary back when the Bible was written. If you think about it, people lived such an active lifestyle that they didn’t have to go to a gym to get in shape.
They were responsible for so many physical activities like harvesting food, traveling on foot, etc!
How Can I Pray for Good Health?
You are never called to worry about your health, instead, pray!
There really is no “right” way to pray! The Father knows your heart when you pray and as long as you’re praying from a sincere place, God will honor that. Simply ask the Lord to help you stay disciplined with your healthy lifestyle habits, even when it’s tough! Then declare His scriptural Truths over yourself daily.
If you need some help with this, here are a few healthy living prayers you can say!
