Top Healthy Eating Hacks You’ll Love
What are the 10 healthy eating tips?
HEALTHY EATING HACK #1:
Keep it simple!
I used to dread healthy eating because I thought it had to be so complicated! There are so many healthy recipes floating around on the internet (that I’m sure are totally delicious!) but they are very time-consuming to make.
And if you’re a busy wife or business owner like I am, sticking with the most simple food ideas is going to be your best bet.
That way, you won’t dread the time you’re going to spend in the kitchen and, thus, you’re more likely to be consistent with your healthy eating habits!
HEALTHY EATING HACK #2:
Focus on whole foods.
If you have no idea what this word “whole foods” even means, don’t sweat it! I used to be the same way.
It’s actually really simple. All whole foods are, are foods that you eat in the same form they were literally raised in, on the planet! Examples: fruits, veggies, unprocessed meats, beans and legumes, nuts and seeds, and whole grains!
Making your #1 goal to eat lots of plants and protein sources will keep your nutrition right where it needs to be!
Be sure and keep your fridge and pantry stocked with clean eating staples so you’re never tempted to grab something that’s super processed.
HEALTHY EATING HACK #3:
Eat the rainbow.
Strive to make your plate colorful and you’ll easily get lots of different nutrients in very simply! Plus, you’ll get lots of different bursts of flavors.
HEALTHY EATING HACK #4:
Incorporate sweet (healthy) foods that satisfy your sweet tooth.
Personally, I eat a bowl of yogurt with blueberries and chocolate chip granola every single morning! It satisfies my sweet tooth and it literally never gets old.
Having a go-to meal like this that is super tasty will make you actually excited to eat healthily! And it’ll help keep you from grabbing sugary sweets.
HEALTHY EATING HACK #5:
Shop the perimeter of the grocery store.
This is a simple way to help you eat more whole foods and less processed and packaged foods (the foods that have lots of unhealthy additives in them!)
HEALTHY EATING HACK #6:
Meal plan + prep weekly.
Planning your meals ahead of time will not only save you money on things you won’t end up using from the grocery store, but it also puts you in a position to always have something healthy to eat on hand!
Have a set day at the beginning of each week that you decide what you’re going to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner each day. Then use that plan to create your healthy grocery list! Go shop for what you need, make the meals ahead of time, and stick them in the fridge for easy grab-n-go meals during the week.
This way, you’re never tempted to grab an unhealthy option!
HEALTHY EATING HACK #7:
Plan a splurge meal each week!
Yep, I said it! Actually plan to eat something “bad” or less healthy than normal for one meal. Let it be whatever the thing is that you tend to crave the most! For example, if you love pizza or hamburgers… make plans with your husband to go out on Saturday night to get just that!
That way, when you feel a craving throughout the week for those items, you can tell yourself “nope, I’m having that on Saturday night!”
HEALTHY EATING HACK #8:
Try intermittent fasting.
Intermittent fasting is a super simple way to potentially lose some body fat and belly bloat! Try fasting after dinner (say like 7pm) to 10am or so the next day! You’ll typically want to fast for at least 12-15 hours for this to be effective.
HEALTHY EATING HACK #9:
Seasoning, baby!
Over the past 8 years on my own fitness journey, I’ve learned that you can literally make almost any whole food taste good with the right seasonings! And don’t be afraid to put a lot on there!
One of mine and my husband’s absolute favorites that we put on almost everything (meat, pasta, vegetables, etc) is Tony’s seasoning. I swear, whatever they put in that stuff is pure magic!
HEALTHY EATING HACK #10:
Fill up on water.
If you’re finding yourself hungry all the time… You very well could just be dehydrated! Make it a goal to drink a gallon of water per day, and watch how much more full you feel! Using one of these gallon water bottles has made this super easy for me!
Healthy Eating Made Easy
Any tips for eating healthy on the go?
The best hack for eating healthy while out-n-about is to focus on whole foods! If you have to stop and get something quick, grab a salad or a sandwich with grilled chicken on whole wheat bread.
However, if you meal plan and prep your foods ahead of time, then you shouldn’t ever really be put in a situation where you don’t have something ready to grab-n-go!
But if you ever need to stop and grab something, try and pick a healthy eating restaurant.
How can I trick my body into healthy eating?
When it really comes down to it… Your body craves whatever it gets used to. That goes for anything in life! (sweets, salty foods, water, alcohol, exercise, etc.)
So, if you want your body to crave healthy foods, you’re going to have to just start fueling it with that!
Take a solid week. Get ALL the unhealthy tempting foods out of your home. And only give your body whole foods for a week.
It’ll be tough at first, but watch the cravings start to disappear!
How can I motivate myself to eat less?
Get busy!
Sitting around at home or laying around on the couch causes boredom. And boredom can lead to unnecessary eating (even when you’re not truly hungry!)
Go do some things that get your mind out of that boredom state. Go on a walk, do a Bible study with friends, volunteer somewhere, or go play a game!
Remember: boredom breeds bad habits.
What should I eat when I feel lazy?
Having sliced fruits and veggies ready to go at all times is a big help for those times when you don’t feel like cooking!
Also, here is a list of healthy sweet snacks to buy that are allllll delicious!
Keep a few different types of hummus in the fridge (I keep garlic hummus for veggies and “chocolate” hummus for fruits🤤) to dip them in and you’ll always have a quick healthy snack or side to go with a protein source!
Keep some grilled chicken breast (or even a rotisserie chicken!) or lean ground beef cooked and ready to go in the fridge… Have that on the side with an unsweetened sauce to dip it in and BOOM! You’ve got a healthy meal ready in literally 1 minute.
